component, or accessory. The pages are substantial, and offer the
history, operation, materials, use, mounting, and care of each
		accessory.

	"Ghroth" Tactical Combat,	Counterterrorism Knife
		(Shadow Line)
All Matching in non-reflective flat black camouflage

		This is a top-of-the-line,
		extremely tough and ultimate
corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant knife: a tactical knife , sheath, and accessory package
that is simply the best made. The knife is a complete crossover
type, suitable for utility, rescue, and working tool applications. This package is comprehensive, sturdy, dependable, and useable. NO OTHER SOURCE
can supply what you see here, all finely handmade to work with your gear, your outing, your mission, and your
excursion, no matter the situation and exposure. This is simply
one of the very best tactical knives and kit
			made today.
		Thanks, J. N.!

I have opened the box with the new knives and I am very happy with them!  I have taken them with me to show to some other
knife enthusiasts and they have all been really impressed and in awe of these blades.
I have always wanted a really nice trailing point, Persian dagger, type blade.  This is an awesome
knife and the feel of it in my hand makes me realize what a beast this blade is.  The shape of the
handle fits perfectly in my hand and feels like I would never have a problem with keeping a secure
grip on it.  This is a no nonsense tactical blade that is perfect for what it is designed to do.
I have shown it to several friends and they have all said the same thing, that this is an impressive
one of a kind blade.  I am very happy to be the owner!
Thank you for being patient with me.  I appreciate your work and even more appreciate your friendship and the communication.

			- Handle: Multicolored Tortoiseshell Pattern G10 Fiberglass/Epoxy Composite

			- Type/Purpose/Origin:
The Ghroth is named for the
				early 20th century horror/fiction/fantasy writer H. P. Lovecraft's
monster that is a harbinger of doom and destroys planets. This is a
high angle trailing point blade, extremely acute and effective
medium-sized knife, a solid, thick and strong tactical, combat, and
counterterrorism knife, made with the input of military and
counterterrorism professionals for their wear and use in combat.
It's unusual that you'll find a trailing point knife blade shape in
the tactical and counterterrorism world, because only the very
strongest steels with just the right geometry are up to the
				incredibly aggressive point cross-sectional stress. This one is;
using advanced heat treatment in high alloy steel, with just the
right geometry to derive one of the sharpest points possible in the
knife world. The knife has full length blade, plenty of usable
serration, good belly, and a serious extremely well-formed handle to
lock the hand to the knife.
This is a great crossover knife!

			- Blade Steel Alloy: The Ghroth
blade is a special hypereutectoid, high alloy martensitic
stainless tool steel, CPM154CM. This is a powder metal
technology tool steel, a high technology steel known for
extremely even distribution of alloy elements and a uniform
microstructure. It's a high molybdenum stainless steel, and
the molybdenum aids in forming nucleation sites for complex
carbide development. The moly also increases the toughness
dramatically, resulting in a blade that's extremely durable.
This allows me to temper the steel at a higher overall
hardness, for great wear resistance as well. The high
chromium and high carbon results in profuse chromium
carbides, increasing corrosion resistance as well as wear
				resistance.

			- Heat Treatment: This Ghroth has my
T4 heat treatment, yielding an astounding blade in incredible
condition through advanced processing protocols. How advanced is
						this treatment? It's a multi-stage cryogenic treatment,
involving temperatures ranging in over 2000°F (1090°C)
to -320°F (-196°C). The process is an evolution of my
advanced heat treating processes, and consists of 33 dedicated
and specific steps and takes 172 hours! This means that just to
heat treat this blade takes over a week! The reason for this is
scientific and critical, but yields the most stable, most
wear-resistant, most durable and long-lived structure of this
steel, profuse with fine multi-element carbides and a uniform
and unbelievably robust structure. This is a testament to my
determination to make the very best knives, steels, treatments
and kits in the modern world. I know of no one else who has
advanced the treatment to this level; it's unheard of in the
						metals and knifemaking field.

Want to know more about the heat treating designation?

			- Blade Design and Geometry: I've made the
						Ghroth with deep hollow
grinds with plenty of thickness, in a meaty substantial piece of
geometry that will assure high durability, no matter the situation
or stresses. The blade has a very strong spine, with excellent matching
hollow grinds leading to a razor-keen single bevel cutting edge
with plenty of curve and belly. The
blade has two and a half inches of my hammerhead serrations for
ripping through tough materials, combining hollow ground and chisel
ground geometries for a aggressive cutting action with little
hanging or snagging. It has a total of over four inches of standard
hollow ground swept blade in front, razor-sharp and single-bevel
edged. The spine has a half-length top swage for reduced cross sectional thickness without
sacrificing strength at the point, and the blade is fully hand-fileworked with a
deep, punchy vine pattern completely around the full tang
which is tapered for balance. This aids in grip friction
and adds distinctive handmade flair. The geometry is
tremendously aggressive; only careful attention and advanced
heat treatment protocols can offer a trailing point with enough
strength for tactical use. Simply put, the trailing point hollow
grind, top swage, and single bevel edge make this the most
aggressive point possible on a knife. The curved belly makes it
a slicing tool that is unsurpassed in keenness.

			- Blade Finish: The blade and bolsters (and
all of the accessories) are in my "Shadow" line of
counterterrorism and tactical knife finishes. Answering the
request for completely subdued and non-reflective surfaces, I
developed the Shadow Line with my Ghost Slate finish. This means
darkening in a permanent fashion not only the stainless steel of
the knife, blade, handle, and fittings, but all of the gear in
the entire kit: the fasteners, the sheath parts, aluminum
mounts, accessories and entire package. Read more about my
Shadow Line and Ghost Slate finish on my Counterterrorism Knives
						page

			at this bookmark.

			- This is an extreme use, high wear
resistance, highly tough, and extremely keen stainless steel blade
						with advanced heat treatment.

			- Bolsters: I bolstered the Ghroth with my
signature zero-care, high nickel, high chromium 304 austenitic stainless steel bolsters,
contoured and rounded for comfort of the hands, and shaped and
radiused in the front face for easy cleaning. They are attached
with multiple through-tang pins of 304 stainless steel, and
the mounting is permanent, as well as extremely corrosion resistant. This is the
same steel used for stainless steel nuts, bolts, and fasteners,
and the bolsters are heavy, thick, and solid, giving great
balance to the knife. The front bolster is large enough
to support the massive quillon, offering a place to apply pressure
to the blade, and protecting the hand from sliding forward. The rear bolster has a
						large chamfered 3/8" (9.5 mm) through-tang lanyard
hole for added security when working elevated or over
water or in a debris field. This large lanyard hole
allows fast and easy threading and hitching of
lanyards of any type. The rear bolster supports a handle
"hawk's bill" that locks the hand into the handle and offers good
counterbalance for the heavy blade. The bolsters are dovetailed to create a
solid, seamless union with the handle material. The bolsters are treated in my "Ghost Slate"
shadow line for reduced glare and match the rest of the knife
						and gear.

			- Handle: With all of my tactical knives, zero-care
is important. I thought some visual interest would be nice, so I
handled this knife in scales of multicolored tortoiseshell G10 fiberglass-epoxy
						laminate composite. This material
						is extremely durable,
complimenting the Ghost Slate darkened finish of the piece while
giving it some crisp character. The handle scales are secured with
six 1/8" through-tang 304 stainless steel pins. The
			scales
are bedded to the tang and locked under the bolster dovetails. This is
						an extremely tough material,
durable, waterproof, with a toothy textured surface that grips the
hand and requires no maintenance. The shape of the handle is
features some advanced concepts. The front quillon is extremely
large and robust. This provides great grip security and
protection for the forefinger, and it's contoured, rounded and
smoothed for comfort. The finger groove is deep and the
forefinger bears down on the bolster. Above the forefinger
placement is a thumb rise, supported by the wide bolster
so the thumb can apply great pressure. This also offers the notch
geometry for the locking sheath (described below). The Ghroth has a large, multi-finger
groove inside the tang for a comfortable, variable grip. The
tang is fully tapered with heavy and bold vine filework working
well with the handle pattern and adding handmade distinction.

			- Balance and Feel: The sweeping blade, the
massive spine and overall weight and strength of this knife is
imposing. It's over a pound of meaty, high alloy steel with a razor
edge and needle point. This is a
professional grade tool, super-tough, with a lot of great features.
It feels fantastic in the hand, with
the balance point exactly at the forefinger placement.

	Included:
		The Sheaths
This knife has two sheaths, one in heavy leather, one in tactical combat,
		positively locking.

		1. The Leather Sheath

			- Weight: 7.9 oz. (224 grams)

			- Materials: Heavy 10 oz. thick leather shoulder,	stainless steel reinforcement screws, hand-stamped, black lacquered, nylon stitching

			- Storage: double-layered embroidered drawstring bag
in double layered cotton duck canvas, polyester

			- Description: Leather Sheath: I've included a heavy, tough, and solid leather sheath for the
Ghroth in 9-10 oz. leather shoulder, hand-stamped and
tooled. The leather is shoulder, from mature cows, and is twice as thick as most other knifemakers use.
I tooled a hand-stamped traditional black basketweave design and the
sheath is tooled in the front, back and even in the belt loop. The
mouth of the sheath is high, protecting the owner from the blade, but
				it allows enough of the
butt of the handle accessible for quick unsheathing. The sheath has a high back, to protect the
wearer, and the orientation is right side, edge-back. There is a
large belt loop, triple-row stitched with heavy nylon for strength
and moisture and rot resistance. The entire sheath body, front,
back, and welts are double-row stitched for extreme durability.
The mouth of the sheath has stainless steel screws that take all of
the stress and protect the sheath stitches from stretching over
			time. The
sheath is dyed black throughout, with buffed edges in a
water-resistant lacquer finish. Leather is irreplaceable in
extremely cold or hot environments, and where absolute silence is
needed in tactical operations with no clicking when in contact
against objects, people, or gear. The leather sheath is also great
for a "non-tactical" outdoors look in a more casual setting when a
knife simply needs to be a tool.

		2. The Positively Locking Tactical Sheath

			- Weight: 12.3 oz. (349 grams)

			- Materials: Positively locking Version 2.0 in black
